Terry Thone

Terry Thone has more than 35 years of experience in roof engineering and consulting. He specializes in the review and evaluation of existing roof systems to determine their remaining service life and to develop subsequent maintenance procedures. Mr. Thone conducts failure investigations and provides technical reports containing conclusions and recommendations for replacement/repair; specification writing; and roof prioritization reviews. He prepares cost estimates for budgeting purposes, contract documents and plan/detail drawings. During the construction process he provides management services. Widely recognized as one of the most knowledgeable professionals in the field, Terry is called on for expert courtroom testimony concerning roofing systems. He is a member of the Roof Consultant Institute (RCI) and is a Registered Roof Consultant (RRC).
Tedd Johnson, P.E.

Senior Professional Engineer
Roof Spec, Inc. employee since 1986

Mr. Johnson conducts and/or consults on failure investigations of roof systems and appurtenant masonry/concrete structures and writes specifications. He has more than 45 years experience in laboratory and field tests and field inspections of construction materials including aggregate, cement, concrete, soils, bituminous and roofing. An employee since Roof Spec began, Mr. Johnson provides professional engineering services including reviewing plans and laboratory data. He also is an expert in providing courtroom testimony concerning construction materials. He is a Registered Professional Engineer (Civil Engineer).

Mr. Pekron develops and implements roof management programs for multiple facilities to identify areas requiring re-roofing, repairs and preventative maintenance. To do this he performs roof assessments, evaluations and develops technical reports containing conclusions and recommendations for repair and/or replacement His work also includes preparing extended budgets reflecting anticipated costs of re-roofing repairs and preventive maintenance. If a new roof system is needed, Mr. Pekron assists in preparing specifications and reviewing details for the design. He is a Registered Roof Consultant (RRC) a professional member of the Roof Consultants Institute and a Minnesota Certified Asbestos Inspector. His ongoing education includes seminars on hail damage to shingles, disaster readiness, RCI research program - EPDM seams and various presentations on roof design.
Kurt Reed

Mr. Reed's primary responsibility is roof assessment evaluations and school district roof management systems. Following the evaluations he assists with writing the technical reports with conclusions and recommendation for replacement or repair of the roof systems. He also performs roof prioritization reviews as well as inspection services. A Roof Spec Inc. employee for 20 years and more than 30 years experience in the roofing industry, Mr. Reed continues to keep his knowledge of the industry current. His continuing training includes review and inspection procedures, specification and roof details, membrane repairs, roofing industry quality control, asbestos inspection (EPA-AHERA) and hazardous waste compliance.
William Waugh, PE

As a professional engineer for Roof Spec, Inc., Mr. Waugh uses laboratory analysis of existing roof systems to investigate physical damage and degradation due to aging as well as analysis of roofing materials including asphalt, aggregate, and built-up membranes. He performs evaluations of roof systems to determine condition or presence of any damage and provides recommendations for repair or replacement. He prepares plans and specifications for roofing and waterproofing as needed. He is responsible for providing on-site construction administration services by acting as the owner's representative and ensuring compliance with project specifications. He is a registered Professional Engineer in six states and a Minnesota certified asbestos inspector. He is a member of ASCE, NSPE, CSI and RCI.

Dan Held, a Roof Spec, Inc. employee for 16 years, started the New York branch office and is responsible for the operation of Roof Spec, Inc. branch office. He has more than 22 years of roofing experience and specializes in technical reports, specification design and detail review. In addition to his other duties, Dan oversees all Roof Spec, Inc. sales efforts which include designing a marketing program, trade shows, presentations, and client development. He is a member of various organizations including ERAPPA, MAPPA, MASMS, AFE, and BOMA.

Mr. Thone performs roof assessments, evaluations and develops technical reports containing conclusions and recommendations for repair and/or replacement. Mr. Thone also specializes in Specification design and detail review. He is a professional member of ASTM, RCI, and CSI. He is also involved in performing infrared evaluations of in-place roof assemblies to determine heat loss and areas of moisture laden insulation.

Mike Johnston has more than 27 years experience in the roofing industry. He has worked as a Roof Consultant for 22 years and has participated in full-time and periodic inspections, surveys, roof design, investigations, litigations and arbitration, design and material testing. During his career, Mike has been influential in the creation, development and implementation of ongoing roof management programs for several large education institutions throughout the Midwest. His knowledge and practical approach to identifying roof performance issues has helped resolve many building problems when others have struggled. Mike has experience with expert courtroom testimony, arbitrations and mediations. He has conducted educational training seminars for the insurance industry, roof industry peers and clients. He is a member of the Roof Consultant Institute (RCI), and the Construction Specifiers Institute (CSI). He is a Registered Roof Consultant (RRC) and a graduate of the University of Minnesota - Carlson School of Management.
   Joel Baresh

Mr. Baresh started his career working for a roofing contractor and then joined RSI in 1995 and returned to the company in 2006. Mr. Baresh has managed numerous roof replacement, roof related seismic upgrade and exterior restoration projects throughout the US including restoring National and New York City Historic Landmark Buildings. Mr. Baresh's primary responsibilities are managing all aspect of our project starting from their inception, through bidding and construction administration to project closeout. His work also includes performing building envelope performance evaluations and general consulting. Mr. Baresh studied pre-engineering and civil engineering at the University of Minnesota and continues his education by participating in numerous roofing and exterior restoration seminars. He is a member of RCI, AIA (Allied) and the National Institute of Building Science's "Building Enclosure Council".

Tom brings to RSI his vast knowledge of the roofing industry acquired over the last 28 years. His extensive diverse and highly successful career has included: Working for three of the top ranked contractors in the nation, speaking engagements for the National Roofing Contractor's Association (NRCA), and he was a former Director and Secretary of the Chicago Roofing Contractor's Association (CRCA). Tom started his own comercial contracting firm in 1995 and ran it successfully for eight years until it was acquired in 2003. He is a member of RCI, CSI, and CRCA. Tom manages the Chicago branch office for RSI.
